Farmers' protests
09/01/2026 12:01
The Belgian Federal Police's traffic information website is already reporting numerous blockages on Walloon roads. Our transport partners will therefore be forced to make detours to avoid using these roads.

Farmers' protests are taking place in southwestern France. This may cause delivery delays in the region, as well as for exports to Spain.
Winter conditions
09/01/2026 12:01
We are working to make up for the delays caused by the winter conditions that affected us this week. Several factors are still making the situation difficult, which could cause further delays:
Delays in the Netherlands: GLS Netherlands is continuing its efforts to clear the significant backlog caused by its fleet being grounded due to snow. Unfortunately, further heavy snowfall is expected, which will again paralyze part of the local network. Please expect delays for goods to and from the Netherlands.
RMI warnings: The Royal Meteorological Institute has issued warnings for the entire country. These conditions include storm-force winds, rain, and slippery conditions (possible slush, snowdrifts, and icy patches). Wallonia will be the most affected. If you are expecting a delivery or pickup by truck, our Freight teams ask that you please spread salt or sand on any icy patches to allow vehicles to reach the loading docks.

The situation regarding international exports has improved: France has reopened its roads to transport trucks, and the weather in the Netherlands has improved. The weather is also more favorable in Belgium and Luxembourg. We can therefore work diligently to make up for the delays caused by the winter conditions.
We are processing orders based on their shipping and collection dates, prioritizing the oldest ones. The impact of this week may therefore still be felt in the coming days while we fully clear the backlog.

Snowfall is paralyzing all of Europe. GLS, like the entire transport sector, is heavily impacted by the situation:
- In Belgium and Luxembourg, many deliveries and pickups cannot be made because addresses are not safely accessible to drivers. Staffing levels are also reduced since not all workers have been able to get to work. We are therefore forced to operate at a reduced speed despite all our efforts to maintain our services.
- France banned truck access to its roads yesterday until further notice. This means that shipments to France and to countries that require transit through France (Spain, Italy, Portugal) will be significantly delayed. We will do everything we can to make up for this delay as soon as we are authorized to cross the border by truck again.
- In the Netherlands, the snow cover is so heavy that vehicles have been unable to leave the depots since yesterday. Therefore, all shipments to the Netherlands are temporarily suspended. We hope to be able to resume our catch-up plan as early as Friday, weather permitting.
- Countries north and east of Belgium (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, etc.) are also affected by the cold snap. Longer delivery times should be expected for shipments to these countries.

The snow and frost might cause unforeseen delays for pickups and deliveries across the country due to the dangerous driving conditions. The most impacted locations are the orange provinces on the RMI warning map as well as smaller roads that have not been cleared. We must expect slower traffic in general because of the slippery roads and possible accidents.
The drivers are being sent out today as usual, but they must put their safety first. If they cannot safely get access to a location, said delivery or pickup will be temporarily postponed until it is safe to do so.
Deliveries in neighboring countries might also be impacted, notably:
- France has forbidden truck transportation to access Paris as usual in those circumstances.
- GLS Netherlands is facing important delays. Consequently, some shipments from Belgium to the Netherlands couldn’t be sent out yesterday evening.
